Appointments can be made by telephoning the surgery or by calling at reception. 

You do not need to call the surgery at 08:00, in fact we would request that you did not, in order to allow those who require urgent appointments on the day to get through.

If you book your appointment in advance you should be able to see the doctor of your choice.  You will not be able to see the doctor of your choice if:

  • The doctor is absent on annual leave or through sickness
  • The doctor is on emergency duty
  • The doctor is off duty
  • If you need to be seen the same day with an urgent problem

Please note if you book a telephone consultation this is a virtual appointment and the time does not correspond to the time the clinician will contact you.  Telephone consultations are usually conducted between 11.30am and 2.00pm, unless the doctor is on call and then it may be at any time during the day.

Urgent Problems

We operate a same day telephone triage system for urgent problems that require attention the same day.   Patients telephoning for an urgent appointment will be offered a telephone triage appointment. The doctor will call the patient back to discuss the problem with them.  In many cases it is hoped that the matter will be resolved on the telephone without the need for the patient to visit the surgery. If the doctor feels that an appointment is necessary, one will be made, by the doctor, normally for later that day.

The receptionist will ask you to confirm your telephone number and will also ask for brief details of the reason for your request This is to allow the doctor to prioritise the calls so that patients in severe pain or with a sick child are attended to before a medication query for example.


In case of emergencies during surgery hours please ring 111. Accidents and injuries should go straight to casualty at James Cook University Hospital. 


If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. Appointments can be cancelled by leaving a message on the surgery answer machine or online via the website.

If you do not attend for a routine appointment and do not contact the surgery, you will be sent a letter explaining that a further occurrence will result in removal from the practice list.

If you need to see or speak to a GP on a bank holiday, over the weekend or between the hours of 6pm and 8am Monday to Friday, then please ring NHS 111 who will help you to access our STAR - Local extended GP hours service.  To learn more about our STAR service please access the following link.
